The New Santa Fe Trail runs through Monument and Palmer Lake and connects with the Pikes Peak Greenway Trail to extend into Colorado Springs and is a popular running, walking, and biking route. Hikers can summit Mount Herman and visit nearby Monument Rock to enjoy some interesting rock formations all in a few hours.

Local residents enjoy the nearby Club at Flying Horse, Kings Deer Golf Club, Monument Hill Country Club, and two golf courses at the United States Air Force Academy.
Adventurous motorists and cyclists can explore Pikes Peak by driving or riding all the way to the summit at over 14,000 feet.
On the south side of Colorado Springs, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is a favorite family destination to view animals up close and ride a 1932 carousel. Visitors may note the elevation and hills in the zoo combine for a delightful workout. The Mountaineer Sky Ride gives sightseers the chance to take in the scene from above while riding in a chairlift. Included in your admission to the zoo is a trip to the Will Rogers Shrine, a 1.4-mile drive up the mountainside delivering glorious views of the city and the mountains around it.
Not far from the zoo is Seven Falls, an enclosed canyon formed by the Pikes Peak watershed. The Pillars of Hercules are rock formations that rise dramatically 900 feet above the canyon floor and house the only waterfall in Colorado to earn the distinction of landing on National Geographic’s list of International waterfalls. Water drops 181 feet over the pink granite in seven leaps. Intrepid visitors may choose to climb the 224 steps along the side of the falls to hiking trails and the stream that forms the waterfall. Reaching the top of the stairs offers both spectacular views and a solid sense of accomplishment.
History buffs enjoy exploring the history of mining and visiting Nugget the burro at the Western Museum of Mining and Industry located right along North Gate Boulevard. The historic former El Paso County Courthouse in downtown Colorado Springs houses the Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum, dedicated to sharing the history and culture of the Pikes Peak region through exhibits of Western art, antique quilts, Indian culture, and space exploration.
