The creeping expansion of the Colorado Springs metropolitan area, which already blankets nearly 195 square miles, has stretched far enough eastward to consider the once-rural neighboring communities of Falcon and Peyton – about 15 miles from the city’s downtown area – in its stable of neighborhoods.
Falcon, an unincorporated exurb or commuter town in El Paso County, spent much its formative years in the ranching trade. Then, sometime in the 1990s, Falcon and other communities in the 80831 zip code, like Peyton, saw a rapid influx of residents that continued throughout the decade.
